The match
Lions are just three games into their first season at Step 4 compared with our six since this campaign started. Who, if anyone, gains an advantage from that difference will be revealed on Saturday. This will be our first visit to Rowley Lane but we did meet Lions in the Herts Senior Cup last season, winning 4-1 at Wodson Park. Our goals came from Ike Okwusogu (two), Gabriel Chapps and Johnny Allotey.
Mitch Hahn was rested for that game but still came to Lions notice and played eight matches for them on loan, scoring in the 2-1 league win at Potton United. That was later in the season as they steered their way to a play-off place in the Spartan South Midlands League. Victory on penalties over Wormley Rovers in the final earned them their place in the Southern League.
The three games they’ve played so far have seen Lions go out of the FA Cup at Hertford by 3-1; lose heavily in their first league game at Flackwell Heath; but set things right in their first home game with a 5-1 league win over Rayners Lane. Their goals in that game were shared between four players so there’s not yet any guidance on a danger man though Anthoney Perkins was the one who scored twice.
This match will see the commencement of our third century of Southern League games, the first 200 having produced 92 wins and 66 defeats with 380 goals scored and 306 conceded.
If you can’t get to the match, you can still tune in to the live commentary from Pete Hill and Symon Allemandy from 2.55pm at 90minuteslivefootball.mixlr.com/events/4479562
The officials for this game are referee James Keane plus assistants Matthew Rendell and Thomas Sansom.
