The match – it’s all about the numbers
This will be our 48th competitive match of the season or, since I’m counting, our 5,494th match of any kind since game number one in 1892. There’s another number associated with this game in that Beaconsfield are promoting it under the heading of Project500 with the aim of signing off for the season with at least 500 supporters through the turnstiles. You can benefit from this because to achieve a good crowd Rams are reducing their admission charges. It’ll be just £5 or £3 at the gate. See above.
The match is a repeat of last season’s final game even down to the venue. Is the league going to make a feature of this in every season? Here’s the report of that game which we won 3-0.
Form guide
The last game of the season with not a lot to play for may make it an open contest. Barring a heavy defeat for us and a big win for at least one of Welwyn Garden City and Barton Rovers we will finish the season in seventh place. A win won’t improve that.
Beaconsfield are not quite so certain of their final position. So long as Hadley lose at MK Irish a win will lift them one place to tenth. A draw and they are vulnerable to the same MK Irish whilst a defeat means that the much improved Leverstock Green can overtake them on goal difference.
Recent form probably gives us the advantage but not by much. Both of us lost last week though the Rams went down heavily at Biggleswade (6-1).
Previous Meetings
We’ve met five times so far, twice in our first ever period in the Southern League, a one season stop over in 2015/6 when Rams were operating under the Beaconsfield Sycob title. We won the home meeting with the only goal of the game scored by Harley Haag in the 91st minute. The return match was drawn 1-1 (Murat Karagul scoring for us) with Beaconsfield’s equaliser coming, would you believe it, in the 91st minute.
Last season we drew 1-1 again but at home. Our goal came from Jon Clements. The away game, our last fixture of the regular season was won 3-0. Johnny Allotey twice and Gucci Soulya-Osekanongo were our scorers. Once again we drew this season’s home meeting 1-1 in October, Sam Mayuma netting for us with what the match report said was a shot from the very narrowest of angles.

Match Officials
With not quite perfect symmetry the FA have appointed Abdulaziz Olol to referee our last match. Mr Olol was in charge of our second league game of the season, a 5-4 win home win over Stotfold. Of the assistant referees Stephen Williams ran the line for our 1-1 draw at Northwood at the start of November whilst Luke Thomas is just in time to get his only game with us before the season ends. Lucky man.
