The match
We’re back in league action with this game. Manager Paul Halsey said his side played like “lions” after they won at Fakenham in the FA Cup replay. Well now we get to see them against another team of Lions. The London Lions come to Wodson Park hoping to do better tham their last visit. That was a 3-0 defeat which added to our early season away win by the same score. Both sides will be looking to improve their current fortunes with Ware sitting 17th in the table just one place above the Lions. A good contest is expected under the lights at the Park.
Form guide
Neither side has set the league alight though Ware will say that their opening matches were all against testing sides. Lions won their first two competitive games (one in the FA Cup) and then picked up a good result by beating Redbridge in the next round of the cup. That run was interupted by a heavy home defeat to Didcot and they have since lost their last three games on the trot.
Ware have been frustrated in the league with three draws and then a home defeat that hardly reflected the run of play. They were also fielding a side with several regulars missing. Can they do better this Tuesday? With Saturday’s win fresh in the memory, cup games have shown us that Ware can produce the goods.
Previous Meetings
I’ve mentioned last season’s two league games. Our scorers in the away win were Sami Moutawafiq, Rechan Esprit and Sam Mayuma. There were three different names on the scoresheet for the home game – Jack Taylor, Jack Grosvenor and Reece Beckles-Richards. There has been one other meeting, that of the 2024/5 Herts Senior Cup at Wodson Park. That ended in a 4-1 win for us with two goals from Ike Okwusogu and one each from Johnny Allotey and Gabriel Chapps.

A welcome to all three match officials for this match. Our referee is Mario Stetakovic who may or may not have had our game away to Aylesbury last season (there was some confusion that I never managed to get resolved) and the assistants are Mark Bright, last seen in one of our games at Barton Rovers back in November and Ricardo Mattis, new to us I think.
