Our opponents
United have been around since 1897 after the merger of the Aylesbury Town, Night School and Printing Works sides. They’ve been up and they’ve been down since then reaching the Southern and Isthmian Premier divisions as well as a one-season stay in the Conference. Aside from that they also hosted the full England side in a friendly in 1988. Those days have gone along with their ground after their lease ran out in 2006. They have been groundsharing at Thame United, Leighton Town and now for a second time at Chesham United ever since. We continue to wish them the best in their search for a suitable ground back in their home town.
Form guide
The Ducks are currently one place and five points outside the relegation zone. Of their last nine league games they have lost eight and won one. That was the 6-0 hiding given to the troubled AFC Dunstrable. They are in need of points which could well make them difficult opponents.
Ware are up to seventh in the table and equally in need of points if we are to once again appear in the play-offs. We have not had an easy time of it away to Aylesbury during their time at Chesham. One draw so far in four visits and, just to show how difficult we find that ground, one win in twelve games there against Chesham United. Right now however we are picking up some momentum and should have nothing to fear.
Previous Meetings
We first met in September 1926 when United ended our first ever season in the FA Cup as soon as it started. It was a 9-2 defeat in the extra preliminary round in Buckinghamshire. Our goals came from L F Brenchley and George Dearman with one of the 98 (yes, 98) he scored in what turned out to be a very successful season. There have been 43 more meetings since then mostly in the Delphian, Athenian (see image) and now Southern leagues with us winning 21 of them and drawing seven. Don Whyte scored the only goal of the game back in 1973 when we got belated revenge in an FA Cup game. Our most recent meeting came on the 8th November last year when Rechan Esprit and Johnny Allotey scored in our league win.
