The match

We welcome a new name to Wodson Park on Saturday with the visit of AFC Welwyn.  Just starting their third ever season after successive promotions through to the Spartan South Midlands premier division, the Romans are something of an unknown quantity.  However, they did familiarise themselves with the surface at the Park by playing a pre-season game against Real Bedford there.  Doubtless someone from Ware took the chance to check them out.

The visitors are not the only new names at Ware with the home side showing several changes from last season.  As pre-season has progressed the team has begun to look sharp and were unlucky to lose at Hitchin in midweek’s Charity Cup tie.  Defeat on penalties after having the better of the game was hard to take but at this stage of the season we can expect that lessons were learned.

AFC will be saying the same thing after starting their league programme with a home defeat and an away win.  The club has the stated aim of reaching the Football League and are backing that with the necessary funds. They will then, present a stiff challenge to determine who welcomes Leverstock Green or Ilford in the next round two weeks later.

If a replay is needed it will be in midweek at Potters Bar where the Romans groundshare.

The officials for this game are referee Alistair Potter plus assistants Moises Amoes and Jake Basham.  We welcome them to the game and trust that they will be given respect on the pitch.

If you can’t get to the match, you can still tune in to the live commentary from Pete Hill and Symon Allemandy from 2.55pm at https://90minuteslivefootball.mixlr.com/events/4425982
