The match
This will be our first meeting with Milton Keynes Irish though not our first visit to Manor Fields. We have previously played five games there against Bletchley Town and later Milton Keynes City but not since October 1976. That was an FA Trophy preliminary round second replay. How many of us remember that game and the days of second replays? It ended in a 3-2 defeat (Graham Tibbals with both our goals), our only loss at the ground.
“The Irish” gained promotion last season after a very successful campaign in the Spartan South Midlands League which saw them lose just one game. They took an impressive 85 points from 34 games and scored 101 goals. That form hasn’t yet carried through to this season however. Despite a good win in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup they have won only one game since, a 2-1 league win at AFC Dunstable. That was their most recent central division game though, suggesting that they may have turned a corner after four earlier league defeats.
With that in mind they will probably be looking at our recent record and seeing a chance to pick up points again. For Ware the main concern is to find a goal keeper now that Max Woodford is suspended for the game. Alfie Mumford has gone to Daventry in the United Counties League.
Whilst we wait for news of a replacement goal keeper we can say that Finlay Titchmarsh has rejoined the club. He is expected to be in the squad for this match.
The officials
The referee for this game is Simon Kavanagh who will be assisted by Christopher Parperi and William Doyle.
