In the midst of a closely contested race for the play-off places, seventh-placed Ware welcomed third-placed Biggleswade Town to Wodson Park. Since their relegation from the Premier Central Division, the Waders have targeted an immediate return, with recent form strengthening their case. Seven consecutive victories, with thirty goals scored and just seven conceded, underlined their momentum.

The Blues arrived in strong form of their own, conceding only twice across their previous six matches, five of which were won. The reverse fixture had ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat for Ware, setting the tone for another competitive encounter that would prove far from straightforward.

Ware manager Paul Halsey has gradually welcomed players back after a season disrupted by injuries, although doubts remained over the fitness of Finlay Titchmarsh, Gabe Ward and Jack Grosvenor. Of those, only Titchmarsh was fit enough for a place on the bench. Halsey named an unchanged starting eleven for the third consecutive match.

A frantic opening saw much of the early play unfold in Ware’s half. After settling, the Blues forced a free kick on the edge of the Biggleswade box through Sam Mayuma, though the effort was driven high and wide. Early openings followed but the final touch was missing. Halsey’s frustration was evident as chances went unconverted. The best of the early opportunities fell to Josh Hutchinson, who found space on the edge of the area but failed to hit the target.

As the half developed, Ware began to take control and offered the greater threat. Biggleswade enjoyed a brief spell of possession beyond the half-hour mark but struggled to disrupt the Blues’ tempo. Reece Beckles-Richards repeatedly found space on the right, delivering dangerous balls into the area that Mayuma came close to meeting.

The closest Ware came arrived when Josh Hutchinson struck the post from near the penalty spot, his effort beating Biggleswade goalkeeper Jack Berman before rebounding off the woodwork. In response, Biggleswade manager Jimmy Martin adjusted his shape, dropping Joshua Steele into the back line and pushing Ebenezer Kufuor further forward.

The breakthrough came when referee Craig Charles pointed to the spot after a pull inside the area. Beckles-Richards stepped up and drove the penalty straight down the middle. Berman committed to his right. Ware carried a deserved lead into the interval, having created the clearer openings.

Biggleswade made their first changes early in the second half, Adam Martin and Coree Wilson replacing Niall Jones and Harrison Rookard. The visitors continued to adjust, introducing Alfie Powell for Rian Silver and reshaping again, with Steele returning to a more advanced role. Despite the changes, Ware remained on the front foot. A low ball across goal was cut out just ahead of Hutchinson at the back post.

Sami Moutawafiq was introduced from the bench as Halsey looked to maintain control in midfield. The warning signs soon followed. A scramble inside the Ware box ended with the Waders striking the crossbar, their clearest sight of goal. Moments later, Leigh Rose was forced off after a heavy challenge, his afternoon ending prematurely. Titchmarsh returned to action in his place. At the other end, Sam Mayuma was presented with a clear chance to extend the lead but cut back to create space and failed to convert.

As the game moved into its closing stages, the Blues continued to create openings without finding the second goal. Mayuma was sent through once more, only for Berman to stand firm. The forward’s afternoon ended shortly after as Johnny Allotey was introduced. Ware were made to pay in stoppage time. A loose ball fell to substitute Wilson, who reacted quickest to turn home an equaliser.

Ware responded immediately. Hutchinson struck the woodwork for the second time after Berman tipped his shot onto the bar. Moments later Moutawafiq collected possession outside the area, shifted the ball out of his feet and curled a precise effort beyond Berman to restore the lead.

The response was emphatic. Theo Ofori broke clear down the flank and squared across goal. Allotey arrived to finish from close range and seal the points.

The reaction inside Wodson Park reflected the moment. Players and staff spilled from the bench as Ware turned late frustration into control. Halsey’s changes proved decisive, the introductions of Moutawafiq and Allotey shifting the game at the critical stage and securing a result that had looked in doubt only moments earlier.

There was still time for Biggleswade’s Liam Andrews to receive a second yellow card before the final whistle brought an end to a dramatic contest. The result keeps Ware in seventh place, five points behind Thame United with a game in hand. Biggleswade remain third despite seeing their winning run brought to an end.
